What causes acne?
What is prescription skin care?
Prescription skin care treatments use highly effective ingredients to treat skin concerns such as acne or signs of ageing. You might see some of these ingredients in traditional over-the-counter products, but higher dosages (which are more concentrated - and therefore more effective) need to be prescribed by a medical professional. These ingredients have gone through multiple tests to show efficacy and receive approval for usage. If you’ve tried countless over-the-counter products to treat acne, prescription skin care might be the next step for you.
Can I use other skincare products with my Software treatment?
Cystic acne is a painful type of acne that develops when cysts form deep underneath the skin, due to the buildup of bacteria and skin cells that become trapped in your pores. It is deeper within the skin than other types of acne and often looks like boils on the skin. It is the most serious form of acne, so traditional over-the-counter treatments typically aren’t strong enough to treat it. Instead, you’ll need prescription medications from a dermatologist. Treatments such as prescription retinoid and oral antibiotics can improve symptoms.
How do you treat hormonal acne?
Hormonal acne is linked to the changes in your hormones, which can cause increased oil production in pores. Over-the-counter treatments may not be able to reach the cystic bumps that form deep under the skin, so it’s best to talk to a dermatologist about prescription treatment options. Topical retinoids can be used to treat mild to moderate hormonal acne. Prescription retinoid can also tackle these pesky breakouts.
How do I get rid of pimples?
Pimples are small pustules that develop when the oil glands become clogged and infected, leading to swollen, red bumps on the face that are filled with pus. While it can be tempting to pick or pop pimples, it’s recommended to leave them alone. Over-the-counter creams that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid can clear out pores and ultimately reduce pimples.
What is the best acne treatment?
With so many acne products out there, it can be hard to know which ones will truly work for your skin. The key is to check the ingredients in every product you buy. Some key ingredients to look for are salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, niacinamide, retinoids, and AzA. Over-the-counter products can be really effective against acne. But for more severe acne, or for those who have tried everything and still face breakouts, we recommend speaking with a medical professional. Doctors and dermatologists can prescribe products that are stronger and more effective than those available on shelves.
How do you get rid of acne scars?
Removing acne scarring is best achieved by using a variety of treatment. AzA and salicylic acid are common ingredients in over-the-counter products that can help reduce swelling and redness, ultimately minimising the appearance of acne scars. Topical retinoids are stronger and more effective at lightening hyperpigmented acne scars. They also speed up cell turnover, which helps fade acne scars. For more severe acne scars, a dermatologist may recommend medical treatments such as chemical peels, dermal filler, or microneedling.
Is Software suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes! Software uses an array of ingredients to ensure that people with sensitive skin can still receive the best acne treatment for them. While some active ingredients can cause irritation, others, such as AzA, have been proven to reduce acne and are much more gentle on the skin. Our doctors carefully review your online assessment before crafting your custom formula, so just let them know that you have sensitive skin and they will factor that into your treatment plan.
